Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Peritoneal mesothelioma involves the abdominal cavity, infiltrating the liver, spleen or the bowel. Like pleural mesothelioma, the most common complaint is pain. The abdomen is swollen due to fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity (ascites) and the patient has nausea, vomiting, fever, feet swelling and difficulty of bowel movements.
The prognosis for peritoneal mesothelioma is worse than pleural mesothelioma - average survival time is about ten months.
