Surgery for Peritoneal Mesothelioma
Surgery for peritoneal mesothelioma (involving the abdominal cavity and possibly the liver, spleen and bowel) is usually about reducing the symptons such as pain rather than taking out tumors.
During the operation palliative procedures can be undertaken such as intraoperative, intraperitoneal heated chemotherapy which allows stronger drugs to be administered while limiting damage to healthy cells.
