Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy
Advances in technology have produced a significant improvemts in the use of machines to deliver advanced radiation oncology in mesothelioma treatments.
Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) uses computer controlled x-ray machines to deliver radiation to a tumor or even just part of a tumor.
Computed tomography (CT) images are used so that the rays can be changed to match the tumour's three-dimensional structure. The outcome is that the tumour receives the optimum level of radiation while the healthy area around the tumout is not affected.
