Chemotherapy: Combination
An increasingly accepted beief in mesothelioma treatments is that chemotherapy regimens should use drugs in combination rather than singly.
Prevalent combinations include: oxaliplatin and Raltitrexed; gemcitabine (either alone or with cisplatin) and vinorelbine; Alimta and Platinol® (cisplatin).
The Alimta and Platinol® combination was tested by hundreds of people with mesothelionma against a control group using just cisplatin. The Alimta and Platinol® group had a longer time frame before the cancer progressed, had better quality of life and symptom relief, and lived longer.
As research continues more agents and combinations of agents are being produced and tested (Gemzar® to Alimta® and cisplatin to gemcitabine).
